Description:
Described as late as 1950 as the most perfect of the smaller Bloomsbury squares. Immediately south of Gordon Square, and contemporary with it, Woburn Square originally extended further south but now forms part of the campus of the University of London.
Named after Woburn Abbey, the seat of the landowner, the Duke of Bedford, the square was originally surrounded by Georgian houses built in 1828 by James Sim.
Woburn Square, along with Gordon Square, has been restored to its original glory with the aid of a Heritage Lottery Fund grant, as well as other third-party and internal funding.
