Description:
These beautiful ornamental gardens on the banks of the Thames form part of the river embankment laid out by Joseph Bazalgette (1818–91) to ease traffic congestion, beautify the river and house the main London sewer.
The full history is displayed on the noticeboards in the gardens. There is a wealth of statues and monuments. The gardens were awarded a Green Flag in 2002 and successive years. There are extensive seasonal bedding displays with a tropical flavour and contrasting shrubberies.
