Description:
Roots and Shoots is a vocational training centre for young people. In addition to a
half-acre wildlife garden, there are other grounds and joint management of a neighbouring public open space.

The garden has been developed over 28 years from a derelict demolition site into an environmental resource rich in biodiversity (with over 30 species of bee and over 50 species of butterfly and moth recorded) and gardening interest. There are two ponds, a summer wildflower meadow, hazel coppice, apiary, children's shelter and dragon's den and some interesting 'semi-hardy' and tender plantings. There is a very fine walnut - the 'foundation tree' - other borders and further meadows in the rest of the site and neighbouring open space.

The wildlife garden is used for environmental education with schools and other groups. The learning centre has a large photovoltaic roof that generates over 12,000 kWh per year.
