The City is where London (or Londinium as it was first known) began and some vestiges of the Roman occupation, which began in AD 43, can be seen around the Square Mile. Visitors can view the remains of a Roman fort in Noble Street from a raised walkway, built to ensure that the ancient archaeological site is preserved.
