Description:
A small courtyard garden behind Rococo Chocolates. The layout plans were by Dræyk van der Hørn of Bonnington Square Pleasure Garden, executed by Chantal Coady, the shop's founder, who has also been closely involved with the Bonnington Square gardens.
Once a neglected city space, with a lone acacia tree, the garden now features a Moroccan tile mosaic and is filled with fragrant plants – all the things used in the Rococo repertoire: rose, lavender, geranium, mint, jasmine, even a coffee plant. The result is a stunning asymmetric mirrored courtyard in the middle of Belgravia, where you can sip mint tea, hot chocolate or cappuccino. Many elements in the garden are recycled, old mirrors came from the 'witch's house' in Sprimont Place, and tiles from Dar interiors. Now a favourite hangout for local birds: a couple of resident robins, tits, a family of blackbirds, and even a great spotted woodpecker visits the garden.
Activities:
Garden photographer Sue Snell will be signing copies of her latest book
The Garden at Charleston: A Bloomsbury Garden through the Seasons from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, June 12. Every book will tied with a ribbon and a bar of chocolate.
Rococo will serve Charleston blend tea (provided by Belocq) in the garden. Each book will come packed with Rococo purple ribbon and 3 bee bars (rose, violet and jasmine with dark chocolate).
Alice will be making chocolate and we will selling the new Marococo bars of course. People can watch the chocolate being made through the glass and we will have our usual selection of teas, coffee and extra cakes.
