Description:
The 7-acre playground occupies the site of the Foundling Hospital, established by Captain Thomas Coram in the 1740s to provide a home for destitute and abandoned children. The main hospital buildings were demolished in 1926. In 1936 the site was purchased through public subscription to be a children's playground.
The original single-storey colonnaded Georgian buildings enclose the site and provide a unique setting for inner-city children’s play. Adults may come into Coram’s Fields only if accompanied by a child.
