The Garden

Formosa Garden is a tranquil and triangular communal garden, created around 1860, and is lined with 48 aged pollarded London plane trees. Since a new 50-year tree planting programme started in November 2016, more than 40 new and interesting trees have been planted as a first phase. Several large island beds surround an impressive oak which, when lit for Christmas, provides the perfect focal point for carol singers. The beds are full of interesting, unusual and colourful shrubs and herbaceous perennials which provide pleasure to the residents. A Mediterranean-style bed displays a wide range of specimens at the eastern end.
