The Garden

This hidden secret garden is a true gem both in location, next to the Globe Theatre on the Southbank and for its history. Featured in Gillian Tindall’s book The House by the Thames, 49 Bankside has a unique story and the garden holds many delights in the planting. It is a small paved area including a pond and fountain, dating from the 1930s. Within the narrow space climbers cover the walls and pots brimming with foliages create texture and colour. This magical garden is accessed via the ancient Cardinal Cap Alley, which is London’s narrowest street.
